Exhibition-Weekend Hannover-Herrenhausen 7 and 8 September 2002

Two years ago the Herrenhausen Gardens offered already the appropriate background for a great performance. In the Nations-Programs of the United Arabian Emirates on the occasion of EXPO 2000 at the Asil-World-Cup one could admire the noblest among the noble of the Arabian horses. And now the 485 not less elegant and noble Sighthounds presented themselves in the Royal Gardens at the Leibniztempel to take a look at various Sighthound-races. It was a famous party who coddled the audience with music and dancing-performance.

After the Sighthound-days of Donaueschingen and the Sighthound-Festival at Dresden, this is the third dual-performance of this type, and however it carries the prosaic name "Exhibition-Weekend". And nevertheless this one was not less successful than the previous two-day-exhibitions. Although there were some doubts about planning this performance, because of the slightly decreasing numbers of applicants, we were more than just satisfied with the number of the Sighthounds applied for. Obviously, this kind of Exhibitions is more and more well liked.

The Annual-Whippet-Exhibition also took place on Saturday; the highlight of this evening was the choosing of the "Whippet of the year 2002". On both days an auction and a raffle were organised for the Sighthound-Clubs which were ruined by the flood-disaster. The clubs concerned will receive the profit unshortened directly.

Best in show (BIS) of the CAC-Breeding-Exhibition on the first day was the Saluki-Bitch Tin Hinan's Haleemah (Breeder and Owner: A. Haferl-Brand). On Sunday the Afghan male-dog Flash Gordon Gandamak was chosen (Breeder: V. Vojtek, Owner: H. Müller/A. Kecker).

Result: Though one could become a self-supporter because of the "little" dear prices for food and beverages, it was all in all a wonderful and successful performance. An Exhibition-Weekend at the Royal Gardens at Leibniztempel in the following years remains desirable. Hopefully it will get a steady place in the DWZRV-Exhibition-Calendar.

Sloughis in the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen

by Liz Gross von Hübbenet

Who wanted to see Sloughis this weekend was surprised. Breeders and Owners had notified Sloughis from nine different rearings for the Exhibition. They came from all directions. In addition to this it is perhaps important to say that there were all Standard-colours to be seen.

For planning reasons the Sloughi-people had a lot of time on Saturday. In a leisurely manner one could walk through the beautiful pleasure-grounds of Herrenhausen, before the call for the Sloughis was heard: ShowTime! It was weekend and there were in addition to the Sloughi-people also many visitors who stay there regularly. On all sides our slim companions created admiration because of their elegant and noble appearance.

I also should like to mention that Sloughis in their home-countries in North Africa are meant - in the same way - noble and precious. But it is not our European way of just looking at the outward appearances of the animals. The Sloughis in their home-countries are the Sighthounds of the Nomads and very useful. They are noble and precious just for one single reason. They had been and still are partially providing meat for the family. A noble Sloughi is a perfect hunter. This is what makes him precious. For this reason the owner holds him in respect and treats him well.

But now - ShowTime!
